Could I paint my fenders at home?

I've applied a lot of ghetto paintjobs, and all of them looked decent for the money I'd put in.

Okay so what you need to do to get atleast a half decent result is a few things, if money is tight you can skip steps, but the result will suffer:

  1. Don't sand in the place where you are going to paint. If you do your prep correctly it should leave a huge dusty mess. I recommend sanding outside.

  2. Sand the fender down, this will take a super long time, but a good prep will pay off. You could use paint stripper for the first layer, but its nasty stuff, be careful and read the label.

  3. You said you don't have a garage, but dude honestly? Painting outside is not going to get nice results. Tape newspapers on everything somewhere inside, and use it as your paint room. (make sure the room is clean and ventilated.)

  4. Clean the fender with basic shit like water and a sponge.

  5. Put on a base coat of paint, this is almost always a matte colour, often grey, but try to get base-paint that's coloured as closely as possible to the final colour.

  6. If you have some base coat paint leftover, sand the fender back again, and repeat step 5. The more times you do this, the better the result.

  7. Apply the final colour, let it dry, and apply it again. I used to apply like max 3 coats.

  8. Apply 1 coat of clear.
