Could I pitch a bot to you guys?

As you have requested, u/Superguy702, here is u/endneo's explanation of the reboot.

Oh boy, here we go....
The hate behind the reboot is a really complex thing to explain, but if I have to break it down simply, it comes from two big places:

1: The game that the reboot was just wasn't what DMC fans wanted out of the continuation of the games, both in terms of the characters and universe their stories followed that everyone was already invested in, and especially in terms of the gameplay (you are playing 1 which was at the start of the genre and not too advanced, so you won't get it, but try 3 or 4 where the gameplay evolved and you'll understand better what we mean), basically it did nothing to move the gameplay forwards and was seen as a downgrade (which it arguably is in almost every way).

2 (and this is the big one): Ninja Theory and Capcom were responsible for one of the worst PR shitstorms I've ever seen come out of this industry. The initial reveal of the game in 2010 was met with backlash, as expected of fans being given something new they didn't like, this isn't anything different from several other video game backlashes we've seen before, which still happen to this day.

What really made it go nuclear, was Ninja Theory's response to the initial backlash, they basically started trashing fans of the old series in every direction:

"Dante's not gay, but I wish he was" says Ninja Theory creative director Tameem Antoniades. "That would teach all those homophobes out there."
Months before photoshopping the original Dante into Brokeback mountain as a homophobic slur.

"That to me is more attractive than a prostitute walking around with a big gun. Not to demean prostitutes." - tameem, describing Trish from DMC1

"If Dante, dressed as he was, walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he'd get laughed out."

Or that time they mocked "Japanesey" games like DMC and Bayonetta, calling them uncool, or called people who wanted 60fps and basic action game features losers. The director of the game went after so many fans on twitter in a major meltdown which led to his deleting his account. After the demo released and people tried it, they brushed off and ignored any criticism and changes the fans wanted for the final game entirely, resulting in a very underwhelming product for fans of the genre.

They were also paying journalists to say this stuff and give great reviews, deflecting legitimate criticism while saying "you only care about the hair", diluting the conversation. All of their marketing was like this, they weren't saying "Our game is great and we can prove it to you", it was all "your old game sucks and ours is better", and everywhere you looked, journalists were trashing what fans loved while trying to convince them that this was better by saying "your taste sucks, you should like this instead".

Then when the game sold like you would expect after such a mockery, they all turned around and blamed fans for it. That isn't just disrespect, that is completely unacceptable behaviour.
