Engineering related-ish.
I was a certified machinist, liked the work but not the environment, so went back to school and was considering either engineering or business because of how I could pair it with my machining certification and go into a) mech or manufacturing engineering, or b) plant management.
Maybe it was because I was a mature student, but something in my brain snapped and I ended up loving English courses (what was I thinking?) Anyway, I ended up with an honors degree in English Lit....
In my last semester of school, I answered a job ad for my local trade college to teach CNC programming. That was 10 years ago and I've been here ever since - machining side jobs and teaching full time. I went back to school to get a teaching degree, and then a Masters in Education (so the English degree came in handy).
I now make 6 figures, and only teach/work 36 weeks of the year.
Sometimes your path comes at you out of nowhere, and you just have to be ready to take a chance.
