Could retire now, but spouse isn't on board... with moving. Any FIRE stories/solutions as 1/2 of a married couple?

My SO and I have recently gone through something similar. We're both of the opinion that we could retire if we relocate, but we both like where we currently live (HCOL). We're both still relatively young, work in the same field, and this city offers ample employment opportunities for us.

As we've explored places to retire to, or even to do a Coast FI, we've realized that we would be missing out on a lot of the things we really like about this area. So we've doubled down and decided a few more years to achieve a retirement here would be better than leaving and compromising on some things we love.

One of the big selling points for both of us is that if we can be FIRE here, then we can be FIRE just about anywhere. And if expenses go too high for us in the future, we can relocate somewhere that'll slice our spending by 25% as well as pull a chunk of cash out of our house.

For us, having that added RE safety net seems like a no brainer since we both really like this area.

So just a little extra food for thought that might appeal to your conservative side. Staying put and FIREing in a HCOL city will actually increase your safety net.
