Could someone explain why I keep hearing of popular artists complaining about how much money they aren't making and yet someone like Kanye West is worth $130mm? Is the majority of this worth from touring revenue/side ventures/endorsements, or is a large chunk from actual boiled-down album sales?

Sure.

It depends entirely on what you're looking for. I was accepted into both GSU and GCSU. I chose GSU for several reasons.

1) Being in the city. The idea of being out in the boonies for four years was not appealing to me at all. I wanted to be near a night life, museums, bars, shows, etc. I didn't want to have to drive several hours every time I wanted to do something different. There's a lot more to do in downtown Atlanta than there is out in Milledgeville.

2) Career opportunities. Being in the city means it's much easier for me to find volunteer or internship opportunities to add to my resume. Being out in Milledgeville is going to severely limit those kinds of opportunities for you.

3) The school itself. I love GSU because it's such a unique university. It's very progressive, it has an amazing research basis, it's incredibly diverse, and it's less "classic university" than GSU. I just didn't want to go to a university that looked like every university I had seen in movies. I wanted something more interesting. GSU is one of the most diverse (if not THE most diverse) schools in the country. You meet people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe.

4) The programs. What are you trying to major in? Depending, GSU has some of the best programs around. Our nursing program is fantastic. I'm involved in the English and geography departments, and I couldn't love them any more. I can't speak for your department specifically without knowing what you want to major in, but I can try to help you more if you tell me.

5) Study abroad. I never did any study abroad trips, but GSU has a vast amount of them available. Because GSU is such a diverse school, they have a lot of ties to study abroad programs pretty much anywhere you could want to go. If that's something you're interested in, you'll have TONS of opportunities at State.

In all honesty though, it really comes down to the school environment you want. I wanted an environment where I could do something different every night and have a really great social life. I also wanted to be around lots of events, museums, bars, book stores, etc. Atlanta fit that perfectly. If you're looking for a quieter, more "classic" university, then GCSU would probably fit you better. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more! I can't say enough good things about GSU.
