County Recorder Helen Purcell: 'I take full responsibility for what happened' in Arizona elections

I just think she fucked up with her prediction on the outcome. She assumed 1/3 of the people wouldnt come because independents couldnt vote this election.

AZ messed up its voter affiliations. People who were registered Democrat, and had the physical voter ID to prove it, were showing up in the system as independents. And as a result, none of those people actually received an early voting ballot in the mail. They couldn't vote early even if they wanted to.

That was one of the drivers behind why an unprecedented 800,000 people showed up at the polls in person. A lot of them were sent home with a provisional ballot because their affiliation was fucked up in the system.

I don't exactly know who handles voter registration. I'm hazarding a guess that it's this woman's office. If I'm right, then she's essentially at least part of the reason why there was such a big turnout. And that's kinda where I have a hard time believing this wasn't intentional.

It also goes back to the 2013 supreme court ruling. Before, states like AZ had to submit electoral system changes to the federal government for review. If that law stood, AZ would have had to ask the feds if they could reduce polling stations from 200 to 60, and that request would have almost certainly been denied. There would have been more booths to accommodate the turnout. But thanks to late Scalia and the rest of the dimwitted band of conservatives in court, the law was thrown out under "state's rights, durrr". So here we are. The Republican government of AZ is deliberately suppressing Democratic voters. The primary we just witnessed is really just the dry run for the general election. Welcome to 2016 United States of America.
