A couple of dates ago I saw a post saying not to let your date pick you up....

Not sure if you should call it rude. Being honest, more like? Not just in supposed life/death situations, but it's better to be "rude" in general.

Met this girl once, we started talking and after a while I asked her out (As you do, right?). She told me she wasn't ready yet, as she just got out of a serious relationship. Which I understood and so I kept talking and refrained from asking her out. But a little while after, she started dating someone else she just met. I know she can date whoever she wants, which I also told her, but first telling someone else you're not ready yet, only to start dating another guy is way more hurtful than just straightforward telling that first guy (me) you don't want to go out with him.

Easily put: Better and instant hurt, than a prolonged hurt.
