Of course. Because educated people make them feel inferior.

The US is increasingly heading toward being an idiocracy. A good portion of the country believes that they need to have as many children as possible because the Non-Hispanic White population is decreasing in percentage. Also, some religious denominations encourage having a ridiculous amount of children. Unfortunately, these same groups of people are increasingly anti-education (including at the K-12 level).

The current belief that's being pushed is that colleges brainwashes people and turn them into liberals. The truth may be young adults on the right side of the political spectrum most likely lived in areas with people of the same ethnicity, religion, income level, political ideology, language, nationality, etc. In simpler terms, they most likely lived the majority of their life in a bubble. This is especially true for most people in rural areas.

When these people get into uni, they are exposed to a diverse group of people that are open to sharing different experiences, belief systems and world views. The bubble bursts.
