COVID-19 Broke The Economy. What If We Don’t Fix It? - Instead Of Reopening Society For The Sake Of The Economy, What If We Continued To Work Less, Buy Less, Make Less—For The Sake Of The Planet?

Most people are concerned with "the economy" and it's their primary voting issue. You're not going to convince them any time soon that we should let the economy shrink. Instead, back to the same: more buying, more selling, more producing...

Frankly, though, it strikes me as insane. Everyone predicted in the middle of the twentieth century that we'd have more leisure time, but instead we have bigger houses and fancier cars. What a worthless tradeoff. Imagine if we could channel our incredible productivity into the well being of our own people and not "the economy." Imagine if we had good healthcare and invested in great education, giving everyone an equal chance to succeed.

Really, when you spell it out like that, it seems insane that so many people are hell bent on stopping it and want to perpetuate the existence of an underclass -- they will actually tell you it's radical that we should provide healthcare to someone who's growing our crops or distributing vital products for $7/hr. Or that we give their kids a better education.
