Covid-19: Japan extends state of emergency just before Olympics

Experts said the daily infection rate in Tokyo has to fall below 100 in order for the city to safely host the Games. On Thursday, there were almost 700 new infections in the capital.

Japan has administered at least 11,176,328 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 4.4% of the country’s population.

But to be fair the same source does say this:

COVID-19 infections are decreasing in Japan, with 4,002 new infections reported on average each day. That’s 61% of the peak — the highest daily average reported on January 13.
