[COVID-19 PSA] 50 masks for $30, no need to support price-gouging hardware stores

Very few of these masks are marked for medical use....which is frightening. Doesn't make it right because they slap on a disclaimer "not for medical use" as they pump these out during a challenging time to a vulnerable population.

Some might be surgical quality, just not sterile. But without standards, we're getting surgical-like masks....like SPAM is a meat-like product.

Here's a hard truth to swallow: Most "masks" and "facial coverings" are woefully, horrifically ineffective.

"But they don't protect you, they protect others!"

Hmm, I don't know if I have enough crayons to draw this out for you: filters work both ways.

Sure, your Harley Davidson "Born to Ride!" bandana is pretty rad, and it'll do a fine job stopping large globs of mucus and snot when you cough. But Covid-19 doesn't transmit solely via large globs of mucus and snot, does it now? It's like sub-micron sized deadly floating glitter. It passes through fabric, gets on everything, hangs in the air aerosolized...

Unless they're actual surgical or real N95 masks with a proper, fitted seal, most "facial coverings" stop the virus as much as a chicken wire fence stops mosquitoes or a screen door stops water on a submarine. It's the same as the Soviet Government issuing vodka rations to Chernobyl responders as a medical treatment to prevent radiation sickness.
