COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Update. TL;DR 50-66% of Ottawa to be vaccinated by July

Since the normal flu shot procedure does not work for the appr. 20% of the population who get it each year how can they vaccinate 75% of the population or more.

It's not the same kind of vaccine, a traditional vaccine teaches our body to fight one virus by injecting a weakened or inactivated germ. If we get the strains wrong then the vaccine doesn't work for the year.

An mRNA vaccine teaches our body to create a protein found on a virus and when cells create that protein it triggers an immune response. This trains our body to fight any virus with that protein on it's surface (aka variants of COVID)

If this is a concern for you I really suggest you read the real scientific literature on the topic (and not fake news). There's a lot of information on how this new type of vaccine works
