Cowboys fans who have never been to Dallas or even Texas. How did you become a fan? What's your story?

Ok, story time! Born and raised just outside Chicago. One week, during one summer in high school, two of my friends told me I "looked yellow". I really didn't care that much, I figured it had just been the lighting. It wasn't until later that same week that the woman who cuts my hair also pointed out that I " definitely looked yellow*. Sure enough I was jaundiced. This obviously freaked my mother out so she immediately told me to pack a bag because she was driving me down to the Children's Hospital in Chicago. After what felt like an eternity in the ER waiting room, a nurse finally took me in back and examined me. She decided to call in one of the doctors on call that night who was also alarmed at my jaundiced self and ordered some blood tests. Clearly something was off, but they had no clue, so guess who got sent up to a hospital room and put in quarantine! That's right, this guy! For the next few days, I saw a number of experts walk through, and still I had no idea what was wrong with me, all the while, I was still stuck in quarantine. Then one day, some nurses came in and asked if I wanted to participate in a study on how "laughter is the best medicine". I said sure, because I like to laugh and, about 30 minutes later two clowns walk in and perform this god-awful routine (by this point they determined I probably wasn't contagious), which I sat through and gave them a few pity laughs. Another half-hour later, a few nurses walk in and offer me some prizes for participating in their study. I could have taken a Celtics or Lakers jersey, or a few PS3 games (a device that I didn't currently have on me), or a baseball, or finally a Tony Romo jersey. I picked the baseball. But my mom didn't trust me and my dad with a baseball in a room full of expensive medical equipment. So I picked the Romo jersey (I loathe basketball). That jersey really picked up my spirits. I can't really explain why. I started to do some more research on them. I knew they were called America's team and that really resonated with me when I truly learned why. Ever since then, the Cowboys have grown on me. I'm proud to call myself a Cowboys fan.

TLDR: America's team cheers up sick kid in hospital.
