Not to mitigate the behavior, but my guess is that you probably severely underestimate how much of the behaviour men are subjected to also (Long-time FOH employee, her. ) My guess is that there's actually something to the "normalization" argument, but that's based on discussions I've had over the past few years with people (both men and women) about various incidents that I've beg party to. I can definitely understand the impulse to take it from 0 to 100 really quick to try to squelch things, but it definitely also has the unintended effect of saying "this is just what people do." For the most part, when men are the objects of the behavior, there are all sorts of ways that patriarchal gender roles and dynamics interplay to mute the effects.
