I am not sure how many of you know this, and it may be anecdotal, but I think it plays into the story. I guess my aim is to garner sympathy for the guy's wife, or at least provide additional perspective. For the record I hate pigs and I think he should be fired.

Randall Mayhew and his wife had a son who died, age 18 maybe 2-6 months prior to his arrest. From what I gathered it looked like the son was suffering every day of his life, and he was special needs and required 24/7 care.

A google search will bring up obits, but I advise you that you may find the images shocking, and I definitely urge anyone doing so not to use any of this information in vain.

Another search and I found that the wife isn't/wasn't employed and they live solely off Randall's police salary with his pension looming over the whole situation. I was just thinking about how sucky it would be to be his wife. I don't think this is any reason not to fire him though (potential loss of pension).

Columbus PD real life stories are way more fucked up and interesting than anything on that Chicago PD show.
