CPD Press Conference to release footage in fatal shooting on South East side

Even when the information comes out the headlines are written so people will draw their own conclusion if they don't read the full article. Look at these top of the page headlines from national news media:

  • Protests erupt after Ohio police release video of fatal shooting of Black teen girl
  • Ohio police shooting: Ma’Khia Bryant’s mother says it ‘never should have happened’
  • Ohio police officer shot and killed a Black teenage girl holding a knife, police say and bodycam video shows

Seriously...

You have to read 2/3 of the articles before you find the same common piece of information: "The video shows a teen quickly move toward another girl with what appears to be a knife, and the girl falls to the ground. The officer yells, "Hey, hey, hey, hey. Get down!" before she appears to lunge at a second girl with the knife, according to the video. The officer tells her to "Get Down! Get down! Get down! Get down!" and then fires four shots in the direction of the teenager."

And they keep changing as the day progresses; like this gem from Fox: "Liberal media blasted for false reports on Ohio police shooting of Black teen" ... Wow really, y'all were reporting the same "news" as fact this morning.

News media need to be sharing the blame just as much as the "social" media. They are just as bad at jumping to conclusions, reporting half truths or, my favorite, "they didn't say anything so that means they support / do not support / are hiding something / covering up."
