Crafting the Ultimate College Rejection Letter

I'm a transfer student so it may be a teensy bit different than a freshman rejection letter:

After careful review of your application for admission, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission for the Fall Quarter 2020. UCLA received nearly 26,000 applications for a class of just over 3,500 transfer students, so admission this year was exceptionally competitive. Given the extraordinary quality of our applicant pool, admission decisions were incredibly challenging and required difficult choices. Our decision is not a reflection of your potential to be a successful university student, nor is it meant to minimize your accomplishments. Rather, it is a reflection of the highly competitive admission process at UCLA.

Preparation for your declared major, as well as your entire academic program and grades earned, were critical elements in the assessment for admission at UCLA. In addition, we take into consideration the educational opportunities and challenges faced by each applicant from information provided in the application. Applications were evaluated within the context of the applicant pool, and no single attribute or achievement guarantees admission—there are simply too many well-qualified, accomplished applicants for the number of transfer spaces available at UCLA.

While no language in a decision letter can lessen the disappointment you might feel, please know that we understand the emotional investment you have made in this process and take this responsibility very seriously. We wish you the best wherever you may choose to further pursue your education.

Sincerely,
