I commented elsewhere that this driver was hitting the speed limit on straightaways, but slowing down way too much in the curves. Like, 30mph through curves with a 50mph advised speed. I believed I would be able to pass safely at the next available passing zone, so I positioned myself to be able to make that move quickly and efficiently, without having to accelerate too much or spend too much time in the oncoming lane.

I acknowledge that I took a risk. The safest thing would have been to stay well behind this car and take a very slow ride through the twisties for the next 30 miles, but I wanted to have a fun ride through the mountains and lean into some beautifully banked curves at the speed limit. I think 99% of us would have wanted to pass that car. I just chose the wrong moment to prepare to do so.
