Lethal force, a gun, is only allowed to defend yourself from a reasonable threat to your life. Shooting her in the leg, or warning shots, mean you had time or otherwise didnt think your life was in immediate danger.

What? No. Shooting somebody is considered lethal force, no matter where on their body your bullets hit. Either lethal force is justified or it isn't.

Shooting her in the leg doesn't necessarily mean you didn't think your life is in immediate danger... it just means you're stupid.

Warning shots are shots intentionally placed at something that isn't a threat. It's very dangerous, and could likely be considered 'Grossly Negligent Discharge of a Firearm' or whatever a particular state wants to call it.
