It was the 13th of Frostfall, the day of the Witches' Festival, when she was kidnapped by a group of necromancers. They performed an experimental ritual, in which her heart was removed and replaced with a soul gem. Nothing happened; they were convinced it didn't work. Until she awoke. Her eyes and veins were glowing blue.

She approached the necromancer that still remained in the cave. He summoned searing jets of flame and cast them at her. Satisfied she'd been reduced to nothing more than a pile of ash, he stopped. The room was deathly silent. Then he heard laughter. Slow, mocking laughter, from a voice that sounded ancient. Aeriel stepped through the smoke, her eyes ablaze in blue. Her hand was held up, sustaining a powerful Ward that shimmered before him.

She approached the powerful necromancer, who cowered before her. In her hand was the ritual dagger they'd used to remove her heart and replace it with the soul gem. He begged for mercy, but received none.

Once she finished her lengthy session with the dagger, she collapsed, the blue light fading from her eyes and veins. She awoke a few hours later, her eyes their usual golden colour. She remembered the dagger being thrust into her chest, and her still-beating heart being removed, but nothing after that. She got to her feet and panicked when she saw the massacred corpse of the necromancer. She had to run; the other necromancers could be back any time. She took the dagger with her, in case she ran into any trouble.

She fled to her shack to grab her gear. She couldn't stay long; the necromancers knew where she lived, and it was only a matter of time before they checked her place. She put on the fur armour she'd made herself, slung her bow over her back and left. After months of living in peace, she was on the run again.

After being ambushed by bandits at Nilheim, she dived into the Darkwater River. Hitting her head on a rock, she slipped into unconsciousness. Whilst unconscious, she realised that she wasn't the only person in her body. The soul gem contained the soul of an ancient, powerful mage known only as 'Traitor'.

To her surprise, Traitor was surprisingly agreeable. He understood they were stuck together, and wanted to work with Aeriel. All he wanted was to help her help other people. He'd committed great crimes in his life, and wanted to atone for that, so a deal was struck. She would help people, and he would allow her to harness his magic.

After washing up in Darkwater Crossing, Aeriel left to travel Skyrim, helping where she could. All was well, except for one problem; they discovered they didn't require food or water; the only way to get energy was to absorb the souls of other creatures. The dagger she'd taken from the necromancers was enchanted with soul trap, fortunately, but she had to be careful when hunting her targets; she had to get close enough to use the dagger. She learnt quickly to aim her bow at the knees of her enemies, so that she could get close to them.

When she gets low on soul energy, she gets irritable and her face becomes drawn and haggard, far from her usual flawless self. Traitor's magic becomes a liability; as they get weaker, his magic becomes harder to contain and control, leading to serious accidents if she isn't careful.

Attitude and Personality: Aeriel tries to be kind to anyone she can. If she is in a position to help someone, she will.

She has a passionate hate for the Thalmor, but understands what would happen if she tried to harm them. Due to this, she avoids them where possible.

She's almost always tracking a bounty. She claims to love the thrill of the hunt, which is partly true, but mostly it's a convenient way to absorb souls and help people by removing threats from the environment.

She always avoids talking about her past; her village no longer exists, and the memory is still painful for her. Instead, she'll talk about her time spent on the Redguard trading ship.

She isn't boastful; just quietly confident in her abilities. She doesn't enjoy killing, but understands it to be necessary to sustain her and Traitor.

She's often seen looking off into the distance, or seemingly not paying attention. It's likely she's just speaking to Traitor. She tried telling people her story, but no one believes it, branding her a madwoman.

If she hasn't replenished her soul-power, she tends to get irritable. Her thoughts become disjointed, and she secludes herself, for fear she might lose control over Traitor's magic, and accidentally cause something bad to happen.

She hates necromancers.

Skills: Sneak: 65 Archery: 60 Destruction: 55 Restoration: 50 Alchemy: 45 Alteration: 40

Main Equipment: Aerial usually wears fur armour that she made herself whilst living in the forest near Riften. It provides little protection, save against the elements, but it allows her considerable freedom of movement.

Covering her armour is a black cloak fashioned to look like the feathers of a crow or raven. She discovered the cloak one day, whilst sheltering from a snowstorm, inside a cave. Much to her surprise, the cloak has a strange enchantment; whilst worn, it summons a crow that accompanies her through her adventures.

She carries her bone bow that her father made her when she was a girl, as well as a small quiver with 12 arrows. She tries to use summoned arrows, but she often finds it hard to concentrate and summon the arrows, so she keeps the others just in case. On the bow, she carved the date her village was burnt to the ground.

She also carries the ritual dagger, a steel dagger carved with runes and symbols, on her waist, which is enchanted to capture souls of creatures and beings it kills. She also keeps a number of filled soul gems in the pocket of her cloak. If she runs out of soul power, she will use the soul gems to sustain her.

She keeps a few various potions, as well as alchemy reagents. She's good at hunting bounties, and as such normally has at least 500 septims on her.

Magic: Aeriel could never use magic herself; a peculiarity about her village in particular. Since her melding with Traitor, however, she is able to harness his magical ability. He also attempts to impart his knowledge to her, but coming from a non-magical background, she often struggles to understand it. She has access to powerful spells, but unless Traitor takes control to use them, which only happens in dire situations, she struggles to use anything more than basic spells.

If she is weak from lack of soul energy, she has trouble containing Traitor's magic ability.
