IIRC In the story: he was some court magi that creates a magical ring for his king that spares him from this strange silvery white death which annihilates everyone else in his kingdom in something like a single night. The king is “immune” but only so long as the ring stays on his finger.

Vemdese just sounds really cool in my accent, and I felt it thematically aligned with my scholarly undying warlock who is studying the undead plague that has broken out as the result of warfare in the hopes of preventing its spread any further.
