Why is the crime issue so potent in politics, especially during this election season?

Yeah, that's a fair point. It is generally part of comprehensive coverage which is optional, so someone who's trying to cut any corner they can to save might foolishly opt to do this. And I say foolish because comprehensive is extremely affordable unless you're extremely prone to making claims on it....in which case it's more important than ever.

Google says it's about 263 average (I just checked my policy and I'm paying quite a bit less and my deductible is $250). $20 a month is seriously completely worth it for what comprehensive covers, unless your car is a complete beater.

I know for some people the extra $20 is hard to come up with though. I grew up in a family where money was extremely tight after my dad died. But insuring your transportation is extremely important -- as you point out. Losing a car means you can lose everything. My older brother wrecked our family car when I was a teen and it was absolutely tragic for my family. So I know what you mean first hand.

But this is very derivative of the main point. Politicians use crime to fear mongers for votes. They make correlations between current leadership and increases in crime despite the cause effect relationship being difficult to establish. Most people aren't at risk of getting their car jacked, and most that are will have insurance replace it.
