[Cringe] “Influencers” love to talk about their in-flight skincare routines, but planes are crawling with bacteria!!

>Touching my face on a plane once resulted in me contracting conjunctivitis in BOTH eyes. It was so chic.

This is ridiculously alarmist. I end up taking 6-8 flights a week for work. I touch my face all the time without thinking about it, and I've never gotten sick. 1.7 Million people get on planes in the US every day, and the average human being touches their face around 15 times an hour. So that's a lot of people on airplanes, touching their faces, without getting sick.

_"Airline passengers should not be frightened by sensational stories about germs on a plane. They should recognize that microbes are everywhere and that an airplane is no better and no worse than an office building, a subway car, home, or a classroom. These environments all have microbiomes that look like places occupied by people.”_ - Vicki Stover Hertzberg, I'm quoting from her study here.

I also found a different story that finds, that a person with the flue, is unlikely to infect anyone seated more than two rows to either side, or one row front or behind.
