CRISPR’d human embryos doesn’t mean designer babies are around the corner

I mean, it does and it doesn't. It won't happen officially or legally any time soon. Once the technology is out there though, there's no stopping it. The article mentions cases in the US and China, but they're just the ones who have publicly announced attempting it.

If North Korea wanted to mess around with a CRISPR program it wouldn't even be that hard. It would just require some WWII era civil rights violations, which they have aplenty on a daily basis. They would need researchers, equipment, surrogate mothers, and a place to keep the children. They could "recruit" some Chinese grad students who wouldn't be missed, buy some equipment on the open market, and use their multi-generational prison system for containment. Actually, on second thought, China might just give them the researchers and equipment.

That's not even the scary part. The scary part is the biological arms race. What do you do when you know an enemy can create soldiers who are smarter and stronger than you? Take the moral high-ground? Ha.
