A criticism I see levied against Genshin is it being unfun or impossible to get characters you want unless you spend a lot of money. This is a 100% free to play launch month account. You don't need a credit card to enjoy Genshin.

Account information:

  • Never spent money on skins, gems, Welkin or Battlepass. Never been gifted a Welkin, or won one in an event. Missing out on Battlepass furniture is the only real disappointment, as I enjoy teapot decoration.
  • Never spent a single wish on the weapon banner.
  • Never spent Stardust on anything but monthly wishes.
  • Early on after a 1-2 character cards decided to save Starglitter in the event that they might eventually add 5-stars to the shop. Not happened yet, but I'm committed now.
  • Never rolled for constellations on a single 5-star character.
  • Never managed to 36-star the abyss. I probably could, if I devoted myself to it, but restarting floors and micromanaging party compositions just to get 50-100 extra gems on F12 seems a hassle.

I feel the lessons to take away from this is that, so long as you don't wish for power (which is to say constellations or weapons) or for every single character who comes out regardless of your interest in them, you can have most anything in Genshin you desire. Just take each months event primogems and invest them carefully. The itch to get a good weapon or another constellation has never tempted me, because largely all they do is add additional damage. More damage means the bosses become easier, and I don't see a reason to spend money to trivialize the game. Lowering the world level accomplishes that easily enough, if necessary.

Genshin Impact is a game where, with enough patience, you can guarantee anything you want. Provided what you want is a character with new mechanics to play with, and not insane damage numbers.
