I think the critics were extremely and unjustly harsh on Bright (2017)

I seriously don't understand how anyone could be confused by the movie, it was so damn simple.

  • Main characters find something valuable
  • Everyone tries to kill main characters to get the valuable thing
  • Main characters protect valuable thing and live

How much simpler could this get?!?!?! Everything else in the movie is just there to explain why the thing is valuable (destructive power, grants wishes, dark lord), show what people are willing to do to get it, and make the main characters react to people trying to take the thing from them.

Why do care about defining it by one genre label? You can't just enjoy a story without it being put in an arbitrary category?
