So this cropped up on my Facebook wall. Help me construct an argument.

  1. We're Influenced by Our Media - and Not Necessarily for the Better

Tropes vs. Women in Video Games are horribly done and take things out of context. Wont go into details, you can show her either Liana Kerzner contra analysis or any of lings in Adrian Chmelar list of the best contra-analysis.

Moreover, young people do not spend whole days consuming adult games only. They spend way more time in school.

You can not that the rest is an attempt to convince you that games harm perception of women by making you feel bad for Anita Sarkezian and Zoe Quin. Being harassed does not make you right, but article is making that point.

Fact check: Eron post focused on emotional manipulation, not on cheating.

  1. We're Being Taught That Only Violence Solves Problems

If that is problem in games, she should have the same attitude towards action movies, horror movies, thrillers, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond and most of fantasy and sci-fi books.

If she does not, ask her about the difference.

  1. Our Heroes Are Increasingly Toxic

Grand Theft Auto far from being typical. It is popular precisely because it is different and does being bad best. With that in mind, what that part is asking for is to stop making games about being bad entirely. Simply because it is not picking up on typical, it is picking up on outlier. You play good guy in most games as far as I know.

Besides: Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Dexter.

Besides, TotalBiscuit hardly plays cynical asshole lately. That is made up point to smear him.

  1. We're Reinforcing Nerd Stereotypes - and Making Even Worse Ones

Yep, this article is primary example how that reinforcing is done.

Second, nerds should be allowed to have opinions on games they play and should be allowed to voice them. Just as young people should be allowed to have opinion on Twilight and Hunger Games. My observation is that assumed nerd is called entitle the moment he/she voices opinion. That is not alright. That is high status person stomping on low status person.

The rest is just cheap attempt to smear all forums as horrible places.

  1. We're Struggling Against Diversity

I do not see backslashes against female characters in general. Sorry. I see people annoyed on changes that seem to be done to appease radical bullies. "You must love change X in character because you are otherwise horrible Y" is bullying.

I am puzzled over insistence to redone old popular stories with women. Cant they create new women characters? Is that so hard? They are old stories, did storytelling died that we have to recycle same thing again?

  1. Our Attitudes and Actions Toward Women Are Driving Them out of the Culture

You may show her that leight alexader tweet about destroying young female writer dreams. Or the treatment seed of escape got. Or how they ignore women game devs who made great things (portal, bayonetta visual, skullgirls visual, ...).

You can show her also bullying TotalBiscuit is getting regularly. Or Daniel Vavra is getting regularly. Or women Wardell is subject to regularly.

Women in general are driven out more by manufactured fear then by controversy. Also, you can point out how there are more accomplished women that Zoe or Briana Wu. Women that were not given 200000 from parents and did without. Women that do not have privileged access to journalists. Women that produce things.
