CSGO's Primary Problem: A Long Term Player's Experience with Cheaters

My bf used to cheat in comp cs source when he was in his teens, he's in his late 20's now and got me into CSGO this year as he got back into CS after a long (~10yr) break. Anyway I asked him about why he used to cheat and he told me to give him the keyboard so here he goes:

I'd cheat "legit". Legit cheating is an entire culture in CS, where players pride themselves on cheating without ever being noticed. Cheats that remain undetected for years are the only way to go for this. I used "the polish cheat" that ran at ring 0 & had never been detected despite being available for multiple years.

What is legit cheating? I would let myself die to enemies if my team-mates didn't call. I'd never prefire an off-angle. I didn't use any aim-assist. I used esp (wallhack with hp/wep info) and that is all. I played with a team and not a single one knew I was cheating despite me having played hundreds of matches with them. I was IGL for them. Legit cheating is all about pretending to make mistakes a lot of the time but only insignificant ones. This makes the significant plays where you do everything right seem less suspicious.

I bought a 4 digit steam ID to further cement my account as having high-status. You can't 30 bomb a match with a brand new steam account at a high level. I played near the very top. I regularly played scrims with the top 50 teams in the EU and occasionally found my way into a scrim with the top 10 teams. I even competed at LAN. My aim was crisp and my game sense was supernatural but not unbelievably so. I got accused a couple of times but nobody could make a "bust" movie because I never did anything obviously suspicious. I'd clear pretty much every angle normally in every situation. I'd just be extra mentally ready for the one the enemy is actually hiding at. Sometimes I'd mis-peak on purpose just to land a nutty flickshot that I was already prepared for. This carried through to when I toggled off and greatly improved me as a player...Speaking of...

I cheated in periods of 1 month on, 1 month off. The idea was to take all the extra information I am seeing while cheating & learn from it. It's a lot easier to learn gamesense, enemy movements, etc. when you can see them through the walls. I feel it made me learn a lot faster what angles to check, how other people play when you cant see them, how to dodge flashes, when to throw nades, timings, etc.

When I toggled off I was still not getting caught off-guard often, as while cheating I was practising looking legit, and looking legit is just good mechanical play, good angle clearing, etc.

Not sure what you can learn from this. I'm not proud of cheating. I'm not proud of a lot of things I did 10 years ago though. Anyway, I took a break from CS for 10 years and got back into it about 6 months ago. I took the break due to health reasons & life getting in the way & other games taking my interest. I'm at DMG mostly due to gamesense I retained from years back, my aim and reactions are dogshit but I support the teams I play with well & make sure to keep the environment as non-toxic as possible.
