Cubans might be excellent doctors, or not, but they will try to fleece foreigners for every penny they have. I had a mild reaction to a sand mite while on holiday in Guardalavaca and I went to see the doctor in the hotel complex. She wanted to give me anti-histamine, a shot, and three prescription drugs that I was unsure of their purpose except that they would "make me better". The best part was the total came to the exact amount of excess I had on my insurance policy (which they took away and photocopied before coming back with the bill). I decided to delay treatment since it was < 48 hours until I get back home and see my GP and he says I don't need anything, but I could just take the anti-histamines if I wanted (which cost £1 from the supermarket).
