Culture and bias within Law Enforcement.

This is not intended to offend anyone. Perhaps it's been considered to the point of exhaustion, but a very serious concern with our judicial system is the 12-member jury. I'm old, so I've served as a juror several times. Once lasted 25 days.

The defendant was guilty of murder. It was captured ON VIDEO. Two jurors were elderly Christian women. While rare, this defendant chose to take the stand. They were emotionally compelled by his crocodile tears and even more influenced by his continuous mention of 'finding Christ and knowing, whatever the verdict might be, God has forgiven and he's an humble man with children who need their father." Prosecution objected, but he managed to squeeze these words in three times.

"People make mistakes! Don't you believe in second chances? Don't you believe people can change? Are you EVEN a Christian?"

I live in Houston, Texas and this was several years ago, but it was headline news, almost daily. 13 days of my experience were in juror deliberations that haunt me, to this day.

Ultimately, our hung-jury resulted in a mistrial. Only God knows how much this ordeal cost tax-payers and even clogged the 'wheels of justice'.

He was found guilty but his defense was much better prepared and instead of murder one plead to a lesser charge with a 20 year sentence.

After watching MaM, I told my wife...."our system is hopelessly broken. It's like a small boat with a hundred tiny holes!" She reminded me of the African proverb: How do you eat an elephant? One bite, at a time.

There's bias in LE. Bias in the most powerful persons governing a trial (judges). And bias of the jury.

BD is probably the most victimized person in this saga. I'm also convinced that nothing 'beyond-reasonable-doubt' implicated Steven Avery. I hope and believe justice will prevail, but no amount of money can buy back lost time.

I can tell you that one year of life during my 30s was filled with so much wonderful potential versus one year of my life, now that I'm in my 60s and about to be a great-grandfather!!!!
