Culture War Roundup for the week of January 04, 2021

A Free Society doesn't operate in a coherent matter. Discrimination based on some inborn traits unrelated to perfomance, is in some directions mandated, in others even banned.

A decade ago an XY person wearing a dress was the stuff of comedy, today Canada requires one to take such a person seriously. From this, one could reason, that even those, at whose expense jokes were made, can become protected classes and respected qua that characteristic.

It also appears women are lukewarm about extending a hand of solidarity to these men.

This is taking the Strong Man version of feminism, as being representative. (This isn't a diss of feminism, all vulgar versions ideologies are both easier to attack and more popular). The Strong Man of feminism being merely about equal rights, and if either sex gains in some area more benefits than the other, this is bad, doesn't capture the reasoning that lead one to identify as feminist.

Labour Unions are a good analogue. Ceteribus paribus, their concern is their ingroup, workers for unions, women for feminism. If their outgroup, company owners/men, also benefits the Ideal feminism doesn't mind, but isn't seeking it. Special Interest group, in short.

This leads to the explanation why feminists, despite on average being more in favour of reducing social discrimination against fat women, still have no qualms about attacking those opposed to them as "fat basement dwelling virgins" and defending the Womens Right to Choose, a fit mate.
