I have mixed thoughts on riots and looting because I empathize with the people.

There have been peaceful protests for ages; they have been as effective as "thoughts and prayers" are to disaster victims. When peaceful protests are ignored, how can people affect change?

Can the response to protests over police brutality start from a position of empowering police? Insurgencies are powerful things whose countermeasures are rooted in political action. We know this. We know that force only leads to authoritarianism and open rebellion.

I'd like to see Mayor Breed counter the protests by issuing reform for the police rather than restrictions of the people.
