Curfew coming to Quebec as new, stronger lockdown takes effect on Saturday

I don't live in Quebec but the talk of this happening in Ontario and the fact that it's happening in Quebec is infuriating. It's the one pandemic measure I hope Ford keeps decidedly off the table.

I have been staying basically entirely isolated and alone since the very beginning of this and being able to go out for a walk at night is one of the primary things that keeps me sane. The idea that if I lived in Quebec (and maybe soon in Ontario who knows) I'd be risking a $6,000 fine for doing that healthy and perfectly safe behaviour is awful. Imagine if we had this kind of zeal for making sure exploitive workplaces were safe. But that's the only thing that matters to the politicians during all this, that's the only thing that counts as a real thing to do in life — work.

Legault's idea that people are going to just be able to shift their work hours and go for a walk during the day instead is also ridiculous and naive — again reflecting a lack of seriousness with dealing with abusive or thoughtless selfish employers, many of whom — far from allowing their employees to have flexible hours — are still insisting people go into offices when they don't need to. Not to mention people who legitimately are required to work in a physical location during the daytime hours and then will just be captives of them home at night. How did we go from celebrating essential workers to treating them like this?

His ideas that this is all going to be Just Fine for homeless people are also naive, regardless of what he says about shelter capacity. And we all know this enforcement will be doled out more significantly onto marginalized people. (Or maybe Legault doesn't, he's one of those 'pretend systematic racism doesn't exist' guys right?)
