the curls are silent

Americans are weird about white and black. Plenty of white people in the US while classified as white probably due have intermixing in their lineage that may lend to features we’d consider non-white. In addition there are other types of “white” who often have curly hair but others may not think of as anything other than white due to the narrow classification system in the US, including Jewish people, North Africans, Italians etc. generally speaking I do think these people tend to have ethnic/racial mixing somewhere but people forget there is a lot of different phenotypes for people. I will say texture is often not discussed in curl conversations though I don’t think it matters because the whole classification of curly hair is ridiculous to me but I will see a lot of “white” people who have curly hair but the texture will be completely different from someone more “non white”. Not to say there aren’t exceptions.

I don’t know how to explain this but I often see people calling ringlet-y curly hair on a white person kinky or super curly when it very much differs from the texture of truly coily/kinky hair. Like the shape of the curl is there but the texture isn’t, if that makes sense. Like braids would wreck the hair on someone with more “white” really curly hair while being protective on 3c/4+ curls that also have the texture I consider the defining part of truly coily/kinky hair.
