Current or past college students of Reddit, what's the best piece of advice that someone has ever given you?

  • GPA is everything, double triple major is a waste of time unless if its for something relevant like Computer Science and Business for example. Below a 3.0, it will be hard to rise.

  • Study your data structures and algorithms RIGHT NOW, don't waste your time on this.

  • Get as much internships as you can.

  • Do side coding projects that are relevant to industry if you want a head start in internships.

  • Watch out for your health because college might burn you out. Go out and walk, connect with nature, give your body naps and let it rest. Depression is dangerous and it will burn you out (and cause other mental illnesses which will slow you down).

  • Don't compare yourself to others. Focus on your goals, others have their own path and who knows, you might surpass them.

  • Get a mentor, especially if you're a male. A lot of young males are lost and after graduation, they're sitting at home without a next step. A mentor will advise you in whatever milestone you want to take.

  • College is an expense so try to keep it as minimum as possible. Each year, tuition is increasing by $100+ because of university renovations. Get out ASAP.

  • Bachelor's is the new high school diploma, you NEED a masters, then your PMP certificate, then your MBA. Get them all.

  • Don't get distracted with relationships. She'll be fine, you'll break.

Good luck soldier, stay gold!
