The current state of ADC

I was a main adc for about 8 seasons, took a break from league and came back this year. I just gave up, now that supports are more independent (finish the quest and never look at the adc again) I feel powerless if not duo with the support. Its pretty much what you said, low impact in the game, gets punished very hard for little mistakes and the range advantage is not much if everybody can dash into your face. Adc is the most scaling role but also weaker than everybody because they share exp, if the lane is going bad you can't go roam because your kit has little utility or burst, you can't easily stomp your lane because its 2v2 and most supports have more impact than adcs in the early game.

Adcs are made for one thing : high dps for big targets (tanks and objectives like dragon, baron and structures). In my opinion, they're in a great state of balance and the item paths are good. If you're in a closed coordinate team where you have frontline and peel you can do great, but good luck finding those playing with 4 random people trying to make big plays. Since I came back it feels like its not common sense to peel for the ADC anymore.

I tried to climb as adc, I went from promos to plat to gold 4, gave up on the role and instantly started climbing because every other role can have more impact and punish enemy mistakes better.

Maybe its better in higher elos, and I don't see adcs going out of style in competitive. But being an average player, it feels like I can do much more by playing a tank like mundo or malphite, solo kill the enemy adc and still have impact in the fight
