Currently a Salesforce Developer and I despise my job. How should I transition to a more traditional Full-Stack Developer career?

Hey, I just went through a similar situation. I was doing real full stack dev work for 15+ years, then our company bought another company who used Salesforce. I was the only developer that survived. It took a while, longer than I hoped, but I was able to switch teams to get away from Salesforce. While I'm not doing developer work anymore (Solution Arch), I'm not doing Salesforce either.

There's decent money to be made staying with Salesforce because nobody wants to do it, so the pay is as good or greater than full stack developers and there's almost always openings. For several years running, Salesforce ranked in the top 3 most dreaded platforms on stackoverflow (until a few years ago when they removed the voting choice).

If you really want out, you need to get out soon. The longer you're there, the less you know outside of Salesforce. It's the Borg - you and everything at your company will eventually be assimilated, because once its there, it will never leave and it grows tentacles into everything. Management loves it, because they think they understand it and Salesforce sales team sends them free tickets and stuff and does a great job of marketing to executives.

Good luck
