Only about 15 years for me, started with a P4 2.4C. Did distilled for a while but decided to try fluidxp because it's magical and won't hurt anything if it does leak. A little later I opened my loop to find this crap in it and almost swore off water cooling, but most other cooling solutions at the time were noisy. A few upgrades later the last pig to be WC'd was an E8400 with twin 8800GTs. Upgraded again and it was surprisingly quiet. Added a few more fans and changed a few things and she OC's pretty decent and is inaudible at idle and doesn't make much more noisy while gaming.
