Dad who works 3 jobs surprises his daughter with her dream dress for the 8th grade dance after telling her he couldn't afford it

Idk man I know its meant as a nice gesture and kindness but This dude isnt a beggar, he probably is immensely proud to be able to provide for his family, working so hard for it.

I'll always remember when we were poor, my math teacher just gifted my mother her cashmere scarf mom had been admiring.. in front of all the other parents. I've never hated anything as much as that scarf, watching my (hardworking, worn down) mother accept it with shamefaced politeness, because the teacher knew we were that poor and thought it would be kind, but it felt like spitting in my mother's face. She wore it despite the humiliation because it was beautiful and meant as kindness, but I know she felt like dirt everytime she looked at it.

I hated every maths class after, feeling awkwardly beholden to that teacher and her condescending benevolence.
