Dads of /r/climbing share your tips for a future dad !

For the gym...

I have 3 10 and under kids.

Bring stuff for them to do or they will wander around and walk under ropes and people. Tablets phones books...

If you can find another dad or mom w kids close in age to climb with it helps. They look forward to gym friends.

We typically are able to let the kids climb for a bit. We climb for a bit. By then they want to climb again. It's a decent rotation that's not a chore.

It's nice when they get a bit older. They can go boulder in between turns. I allow my oldest to do this now.

To start little kids can get away without real climb shoes. They'll grow out of them too fast anyways.

Be prepared to tie a kid in, get set up, for them to get scared only 10 feet up and wanting to come down.

All my kids started around 5 or 6 when they weighed 50lbs.
