I finally listened to Evermore after putting it off due to FOFO for a few months, and it’s gonna take me some more listen throughs to see how I feel about it, but I do know one thing. I really like willow, but every time she says “my man” it takes me out. At first, I thought my issue was with the words “my man” but I’m fine with the phrase in other songs (eg sad girl by lana del rey, flawless by beyoncé, jolene by dolly parton). It’s only when Taylor uses it that bothers me. I think the reason is two fold. 1) When she says it, its giving me the same energy as “hubby” and 2) willow is magical and whimsical and “my man” just feels like too much of a colloquialism in that context. I would love this song otherwise and I’m just thinking what else could have replaced that.
