2010 - Robbery, this one was honestly laughable Xavi was the best Barca player that year but somehow Messi gets the award + he also ghosted against Inter across two legs + the World Cup showing was embarrassing; shown up by Thomas Müller a new face at the time.
2011 - Marginally deserved
2012 - Robbery, “but but 91 goals” okay? 91 goals in a year with no League Title or CL to show for it, most of those goals were against bottom of the table La Liga fodder, another disappearing act in the CL where he was locked by an awful Chelsea over two legs, plus that penalty miss was shocking, 50 league goals and yet none of those came in Clasico’s, also shown up by Ronaldo in the biggest game of the season.
2015 - Robbery, outscored by Ronaldo in La Liga, a Ronaldo who was carrying a Madrid side who had half its players on the treatment table that year, carried by Neymar in the CL KO stages, Neymar scored 7 CL KO goals and was marvellous against Bayern over two legs, then Ronaldo scored 48 league goals in 35 appearances, but yeah give it to Messi because he dropped Boateng.
Another disappearing act for Argentina that summer where he was shut out by Isla & Gary Medel in the Copa Final, this Ballon D’Or should’ve been Vidal’s, Neymars or Ronaldo’s.
2019 - Robbery, VVD put on the greatest CB performance in a single season since God knows when, it was honestly mesmerising what we were watching, people were desperate for VVD to get dribbled past and it never happened; ridiculous player, meanwhile Messi puts on another disappearing act by Messi in a big CL game which saw VVD keep a clean sheet, and Messi not do anything the entire night.
He gets gifted the Ballon D’Or out of pity, due to the 4-0 hammering, this was VVD’s award
2021 - Robbery, laughable, farce etc whatever term you want to use, Lewandowski was by far the best player in the world and was breaking records left right and centre, but Messi winning the Copa, a Copa America that was extremely low in quality btw somehow gets him another Ballon D’Or.
