[Daily Discussion] Brainstorming- January 18, 2022

I'm pretty much finishing the first draft of my last story (around 25k words) but I'm torn on the ending. The story starts with my main character's life starting to fall apart, partly due to her self-destructive tendencies, partly due to general life stuff. She is forced to confront her past trauma and can't move on with her life until she does so - and she does, in the end. I don't want her life being all peachy at the end of the story but I tried to show that she's in a better place and starting to heal.

Anyway, she also has this acquaintance/love interest. They could be pretty good for each other, but (mostly because of the state of my heroine's psyche) it ends badly. At the last chapter, after she starts getting better I have them kind of tentatively rekindle the romance.

I mostly did it because I found it really satisfying and as a way to show my MC getting better. However, as I'm rereading, I feel like it's perhaps a bit too rushed. Like, my main character has just started processing her trauma, do I need to throw her into a relationship at this point? Character-wise, it makes way more sense to me to leave the fate of their relationship more open-ended, but I like the romantic ending, I can't help it, it warms my cold black heart. So I'm essentially wondering whether I should go the route of personal satisfaction or something that feels more "correct".
