Take that's probably cold here but hot in other parts of the Internet: as a gay guy, I don't think it actually matters if gay characters are played by straight actors, as long as gay actors have opportunities to play straight characters too. You can't tell if someone's gay just by looking at them. And, if you insisted that every character be played by someone with the same sexual orientation, a) plenty of movies with gay main characters wouldn't have been made because of a lack of bankable gay stars to cast in them, and b) gay actors would be functionally locked out of the industry because of a general lack of gay characters overall. Ultimately, what matters to me is whether or not gay characters are written like real human beings and played well, and I don't think the actor's own life is necessarily a big deal in this particular case
