There are a lot of 2 year degree (Associates) jobs that leave you with a certification that pretty much guarentee a job and do pretty well hourly.

  1. Dental Hygienist/Assistant's can make $30+, and they are 2 year.

  2. Paramedics can make $25+, another 2 year program.

  3. Electricians/Plumbers can make $30+, but even $50+ some places, can often be a 2 year program, but even certificate programs can cover it.

  4. Automotive repair/mechanic can do $30+ hourly, and often another 2 year degree.

I went and got a BA, and I currently make less and most of the other people I know with 4 year degrees make less. I even know people with master's degrees that make less.

A lot of people go get a BA thinking it guarantees them a job, but it doesn't...more-so 2 year degrees do, as they actually technically train you/license you to actually have a skill versus this vague sense of "I'm very well-educated", with no real hands-on training, that BA/BS's often give.

The way Bachelors and over educations start to pay out more clearly is in advancement opportunities later. Most associate level programs give you some really nice hourly wages early on, but there's no advancement. In a dentists office when you're a hygienist, it's a great start at $30+ an hour...but there is really nowhere to go from there; that's what you'll be making forever. Whereas a BA in finance might start you off interning and not making shit for some big company, and eventually you could be running the place making 7 figures.

Kind of a rant but I just had this discussion with someone recently.
