I've told this story before, but:

Once I was in the gym deadlifting. I was hitting around 5 plate at the time as a max, and warming up with sets of 4 plate. Just being normal.

This dude walks up to the rack next to me. As he's walking up, I can see he's decked out in every possible piece of equipment a human can own for lifting. He has on lifting shoes, a powerlifting singlet, an Animal t-shirt 2 sizes too big over the singlet, an Inzer belt, straps, and all different types of compression gear on his knees and elbows.

He's pretty DYEL, but I think to myself that if he has all that stuff, he might be a legit powerlifter who's small but extremely strong for his weight class, or something...and I look on every so often expecting to be impressed.

He hits 1 plate with some ease for a few reps. Hits 2 plate with a little more struggle, and I automatically know this isn't going to be good...then he goes for 3 plate, for a single, and screams as he hitches it up with his back bent, and slams the weight down because it took everything he had to get that up; and he was done.

I had to stop myself from laughing, and he definitely saw me looking doing my 5 plate sets in just normal sneakers and no belt with a little chalk.

You definitely need to be moving some weight to do be throwing weights at the ground and be all decked out in my opinion. I don't even think I'm anywhere near strong enough to act like that.
