I'm in the interview process for a remote IT job. They are based in the central time zone and open to remote work. The company HQ is in a city that, as a late 20s guy, doesn't seem very fun to live in. I'd be making high five figures/low six figures.

I've been considering Las Vegas, Austin, or Pittsburgh as good locations that have low cost of living, but a bit more to do than a random city in the Midwest.

Does anyone have any thoughts on these choices? I also considered Portland and Denver, but they seem to be a bit expensive and rents are rising.

I also want to be cognizant that while this job seems great, if I lost it or the company had isssues I need to be able to find other work. Vegas would put me very close to tech hubs in SF/Seattle/Portland and both Pittsburgh and Austin have a decent tech scene.

Personally I'm leaning towards Vegas since it's a cheap blue state in the SW (fits my personal preferences) and I've heard good things from tech friends who left SF due to the prices.
