Definitely, there's a strong saviour/Messiah complex from some. Just look at Greta. Imagine the collosal arrogance involved to think that you can preach to world leaders and scientists when you've literally got no clue. People of her ilk have all the self-righteousness of religious fundamentalists.

Back to your original comment on somewhat murky practices by the press and environmentalists. I remember a glaciology lecturer at uni going off on one about the press. Whenever they talk about climate change, they always show a montage which includes iceberg calving. Thing is, that happens regardless of global warming. Similarly they love to talk about receding glaciers or rushing glaciers. Sometimes this can be attributed to global warming, sometimes not. But they'll use dramatic footage or imagery, because they're in the drama business and aren't interested in truth. And then when another report comes out saying X is due to Y, and not climate change, it undermines public faith in scientists and the scientific process.
