Daily Megathread - 13/08/2020

The sort of thing below might be driving it. This is a tiny school for mostly nonacademic girls, probably about 10 per year, all A levels classes miniscule, all comparable classes years equally tiny so results hold despite probably being a complete fiction.

Westfield school students smash record with nearly 50% A or A* grades

Students at Westfield School, an independent girls school in Newcastle, are celebrating a record-breaking year.

Teachers say almost half of the grades were A*or A, while 90% of the scores were C or above.

Headmaster Neil Walker said:

"I am so proud of our girls who have achieved these outstanding results and indeed of the staff who have supported and nurtured them. Some of these girls have been at our school since nursery age and it goes to show how our teaching style, focusing both academic success and student welfare, brings such positive outcomes.

"The cancellation of the 2020 examinations was a huge blow to staff and pupils but everyone has shown such dedication and resolve, staying focused and continuing their teaching and learning. In fact, our lockdown learning and the achievements of the girls throughout the school have been truly inspiring."

Teachers noted that all the grades awarded at the school by teachers were accepted by exam boards - contrasting with the 40% which were adjusted nationally.
