Daily Political Discussion Roundtable - 02/20/2019

CNN's reporting that the Mueller report may be finished as early as next week, and as expected /r/politics is freaking out.

First of all, this shouldn't come as a shock. There have been lots of credible reports that the investigation was in its final stages, and a timeline of late-February has been talked about for a while. We also know that aside from wanting to help the Barr transition, Rosenstein wanted to stay until the Mueller investigation was wrapped up. Anyone who thinks that the investigation is being rushed now that Barr has the reigns is either ignorant or intentionally dense.

I also hate how people seem to think the Mueller investigation should never end. "But they haven't done X, Y, or Z, and that popping kream guy on /r/politics said that was important"

The investigation has to end at some point. It may take years for all of the dust to settle, but Mueller has had enough time and resources to answer the major questions laid out in the mandate. I have complete confidence in the idea that Mueller made his decision to end the investigation independently and in good faith. Whatever leads were worth chasing, he chased. Whatever leads weren't worth chasing, he didn't. Whatever leads were better left to other jurisdictions were passed to those jurisdictions.

I personally look forward to the conclusion of the investigation and am eager to hear what, if any, criminal exposure the president and his men face. It sounds like we'll have a pretty good answer soon.
